Mitchell McArdle

Director of Walk With US: Kokoda (Series) and Committee Member

Mitch McArdle
is a passionate Australian filmmaker with a strong dedication to storytelling, particularly around themes of war and mental health. Born in Wollongong, Mitch studied Filmmaking at JMC Academy in Sydney, where he completed his Bachelor of Film and Television Production. He was also awarded a scholarship which allowed him to study at the Los Angeles Film School.

During his time at JMC Academy, Mitch’s work garnered significant recognition, winning multiple Martini Awards, including Best Documentary and Best Short Film (2015). His graduate film Absence went on to win Best Grad Film (2016), while Mitch himself received accolades for Best Writing (2016) and a nomination for Best Director (2016).

After completing his studies, Mitch pursued a career as an independent filmmaker. He wrote and directed two short films, Blind Date and Not Today, and launched his production company, MC Films. His passion for history, particularly the Second World War, and mental health, has driven much of his creative work.

In 2023, Mitch collaborated with producer Lachlan Stevens on a project with The Barstool Brothers and The Man Walk to document a group’s journey along the Kokoda Trail. What began as a 90-minute documentary quickly evolved into an ambitious 10-part mini-series, capturing the powerful experience of walking in the footsteps of the soldiers who fought in the Kokoda campaign. The series also honours the legacy of both World War II veterans and modern-day service men and women, exploring how the Kokoda Trail continues to have a life-changing impact on those who traverse it.

Since April 2023, Mitch has been dedicated to bringing this cinematic project to life, with a deep respect for the personal stories and sacrifices that make the Kokoda Trail one of Australia’s most significant historical and emotional landmarks.
